How To Send PR Showrooms A Pull Request

We've discussed the different places where you as a stylist can borrow clothing from for photoshoots, red carpets, and other various jobs. But sometimes thing as a new stylist is getting that PR to respond to your request and give you the OK to come in and pull. So how do you go about composing the perfect pull request? You know we have your back; Follow these tried and true steps below.

GREETING

Every email should start off with a "Hi ___". A lot of PR's will list their email as info@prshowroom.com but it could very well be the intern who is fielding emails in that inbox. Take the time to find out the main PR person's name/email address who handles pull requests. This is where research comes in handy, it will significantly increase the chances of your email being answered than just sending it to an unattended inbox.

NEXT,

Get straight to the point and let them know why you're reaching out. No one likes waffling. Tell them what the project is; Is it an editorial? Red Carpet? TV Appearance?

Also, if a big name photographer, model, or celeb is involved, include that. Normally name dropping is a big no-no but in this case it will work in your favor.

NOW,

Help them out and let them know exactly what you're looking for. Are you looking to pull pastels? Floral dresses? Suits? The more detail you can provide in this initial email the better, extra brownie points if you provide a mood board. This makes it easier on them because they know exactly what you're looking for and won't have to guess whether or not they have what you're looking for. This saves both parties time, the last thing you want to do is show up and they have nothing you want.

LAST,

It's time to close the email with your signature. Always have a formal signature. Here are some examples:

Warm Regards

Kindly

Best

You get the point. After that, sign off with your full name.

Bonus: Make sure you're sending this email from a professional email address. No one's going to take you seriously as a stylist if your email address is babygirl69@hotmail.com or sexychick5@yahoo.com. A simple Gmail with your first and last name will do just fine, even more brownie points if you have your own site and have an email with that domain ie. Jessica@JessicaSmith.com or Style@SarahBest.com.

**Please note, the PR's approval of your request will largely depend on the amount of-you guessed it- PR their clients will receive. So know that an editorial photoshoot with a rising star will more likely be approved than a test shoot with an unknown model (welcome to the realities of the fashion industry).
